Day 123 - August 31, 2010

MOURNING DOVE
Third on my list of birds I don't really like (I'm not sure why, but it's the truth), I found this Mourning Dove strutting her stuff down the road on my way home...and since I haven't gotten any "wildlife" in nearly a month...she wins a slot on day 123.

Day 122 - August 30, 2010

CAT FACE
I haven't tried to shoot one of these in a long time because they are always in a terrible spot. I decided to try using my flash and after a few shots I think this one turned out pretty good, I especially like his shadow in the background.
I also decided these things are even creepier up close!

Day 121 - August 29, 2010

LAZY BOY
Got pretty close to Tex tonight and was able to lie down for a low perspective in this shot. I like how he's looking back at me, wish I could have avoided the harsh shadow across his face...next time...

Day 120 - August 28, 2010

REFLECTION
Okay, so it would have been better with a lake, green grass and a few puffy clouds...but sometimes you just have to work with what you've got. We had some heavy rain earlier and I thought I'd try some reflection shots. I think this one turned out pretty good considering the surroundings.

August 27, 2010

Day 119 - August 27, 2010

SAD LITTLE FLOWER
My poor clematis is now growing along the ground because every time it ventures up the fence those pesky cows eat it! These are the only flowers this one has had all year.

August 26, 2010

Day 118 - August 26, 2010

END OF DAY
We had another beautiful sunset tonight. I'm not sure if this is a beautiful picture...but I tried.

August 25, 2010

Day 117 - August 25, 2010 - Second Post

TEX
Okay, I already posted earlier today and was so proud that I was done before dinner...but I just got the funniest shots of Tex...so I decided I had to do a second post for the day.

Day 117 - August 25, 2010

MORNING MOON
I've been watching the moon every morning on my drive to work this week. The moon was full last night and was still high and bright in the sky this morning, so I took a few shots. Interesting with the moons rotation, the "belly button" from the other night is near the top during the day...

August 24, 2010

Day 116 - August 24, 2010

CIRCLE OF LIFE
We have an old tree stump in our front yard for decoration and it is slowly crumbling away. Tonight I noticed inside a new crab apple tree has taken root and is shooting for the sky.

August 23, 2010

Day 115 - August 23, 2010

NEARLY FULL MOON
Isn't the moon weird? It looks like it has a belly button...
I shot this around 8:00 tonight (it was not dark outside). I adjusted the shutter speed and metering to get the sky to go black. Would have been better with tripod...too lazy...

August 22, 2010

Day 114 - August 22, 2010

BLACK-EYED SUSAN
The Black-Eyed Susan's are blooming in my back yard. I thought I should get a shot since it will be one of the last flowers I get this year.

August 21, 2010

Day 113 - August 21, 2010

GATHERING STORM
Missed the chance at two raccoons...still kicking myself...but when I got home I noticed these storm clouds gathering in the west with the sun still fighting to shine through so I shot and processed using HDR.

August 20, 2010

Day 112 - August 20, 2010

HOLDING ON TO THE DAY
This shot was Duel's idea and after taking it I decided it was quite appropriate as I'd like to hold onto this day a lot longer. Tomorrow he is moving out...ready to take the next step in life, living on his own, going to college. I'm excited for him but my heart is breaking too...

August 19, 2010

Day 111 - August 19, 2010

HARVEST
They started to harvest the grain...barley...wheat...whatever...behind our house today. This shot didn't exactly turn out the way I imagined but I think the big John Deere in the background looks kind of cool all blurred out.

August 18, 2010

Day 110 - August 18, 2010

OUR STREET
Street...Road...not sure what the difference is...
This was the only idea I had today.

August 17, 2010

Day 109 - August 17, 2010

GOT DOGS???
We do...3...and as you can see, someone left a perfectly good baseball in the yard and Destructo Dog (aka Gracie) got it and left us this sweet treat on the sidewalk today. Bye Bye Baseball!

August 16, 2010

Day 108 - August 16, 2010

PEACEFUL
A thunder storm rolled through tonight, thank goodness, since I hadn't taken any pictures yet. When I took this shot it was sprinkling in my front yard but not in my back yard???? If you look closely you'll see the gold at the end of the rainbow...Golden Wheat!

August 15, 2010

Day 107 - August 15, 2010

HOME TO IDAHO
I am finally home and so glad to see the beautiful Idaho sunset from our front yard!

DAY 106 - August 14, 2010

GOT GRAVEL???
Found this mountain with what appears to be a gravel pit...made me feel like I was home...

Day 105 - August 13, 2010

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
I was able to get away in the evening for a few minutes and got this shot of a beautiful old church in Salt Lake City.

Day 104 - August 12, 2010

VIEW FROM THE LOADING DOCK
Didn't get to go anywhere but the convention center today from 6:00 am to almost midnight. But I was able to sneak out to the back dock for an evening shot.

Day 102 - August 11, 2010

SLEEP...
At least the bed was comfortable!

Day 102 - August 10, 2010

VIEW FROM MY WINDOW
This is the view from my "home" for the next week...Major Construction Zone!

August 9, 2010

Day 101 - August 9, 2010

THE FIRST DROP
Not exactly what I saw in my minds eye...but I think it turned out okay. I'll have to try again another day.

August 8, 2010

Day 100 - August 8, 2010

SWAINSON'S HAWK WITH PREY
Wow, these hawks have been super cooperative the last few days. Spent about an hour with this youngster while he ate his afternoon catch. I hope they nest here again next year!

August 7, 2010

Day 99 - August 7, 2010

SWAINSON'S HAWKS
There is a family of hawks living near our house and they seem to be working on the "kids" hunting skills. The "kids" are quite the whiners and have chosen the power pole across from our house to sit on and scream for help. They are starting to drive us crazy, but they are fun to watch just the same. Today one "kid" caught a mouse and the brothers landed on a dirt hill to enjoy the meal. I got a few shots of them and these are two of my favorites.

August 6, 2010

Day 98 - August 6, 2010

Sunrise From My House
There was a beautiful sunrise as I let Gus out this morning...by the time I got my camera and was ready it was not quite so dramatic, but still turned out okay.

Day 97 - August 5, 2010

Sunrise Reflection
Stopped for this nice sunrise reflection this morning.

August 4, 2010

Day 96 - August 4, 2010

City Hall
Took some more shots down town this morning before work. I need a lot of work on these types of photos, but thought this one turned out okay when I converted it to black and white.

August 3, 2010

Day 95 - August 3, 2010

First Presbyterian Church.
Stopped for a few shots of some historic buildings on my way to work today. This is the First Presbyterian Church in Idaho Falls. I really like the the effect of the clouds and the sun just starting to peek past the eaves.

Day 94 - August 2, 2010

Downtown Idaho Falls
Stopped downtown this morning to take a few shots. Thought this one was okay.

August 1, 2010

Day 93 - August 1, 2010

Duel is 18!
I cannot believe our baby turned 18 today! Today's shots are dedicated to Duel, not that he was a willing participant! The first is of him riding his new board, the second...an accidental smile I happened to capture, and the third...a shot of what teenagers are really all about...texting!
