Day 153 - September 30, 2010

YUMMY
This is the worst photo I've posted so far. Did not shoot at all and then suddenly it was 10:30 p.m. I had absolutely no ideas but this Diet Coke can was sitting here...and I decided I should let it make an appearance since it is my FAVORITE!
(I'm very excited we're leaving to go camping tomorrow and I am positive I will find something better than a diet coke can to shoot!)

Day 152 - September 29, 2010

WHAT'S WRONG
Again, not too much creativity...took this close up of the bush by our front door. I'm noticing a lot of brown...I certainly hope it's not dying it's taken 15 years to get as tall as the house.

Day 151 - September 28, 2010

GUS...AGAIN...
Wow, I'm not feeling very creative this week...but Gus is always cooperative not matter what you want...and he's such a sweety...I can't really resist!

Day 150 - September 27, 2010

GRACIE AND GUS
Got some shots of Grace and Gus playing in the field tonight. They are so funny...as usual, Grace is packing her favorite rock and Gus is just being silly. He is feeling so much better that he's acting like a puppy again. We are so happy!

Day 149 - September 26, 2010

EARLY EVENING FROM OUR YARD
Early evening tonight presented another colorful sunset. We seem to get the best sunsets during autumn...my favorite time of year.

Day 148 - September 25, 2010

SUNSET
Didn't shoot much today...but we had another beautiful sunset so at least I got something...

Day 147 - September 24, 2010

INNOCENCE
Took a bunch of shots of the four legged kids tonight. I really liked this one the best...doesn't Gus look so sweet and innocent. You have to smile whenever you look at him!

September 23, 2010

Day 146 - September 23, 2010

MOWING IN FRONT OF A LIVE AUDIENCE
I thought it was so funny when I noticed "The Herd" lined up watching Gary mow...they really wanted some grass clippings!
You may also think from this picture that our lawn mower is on fire and smoking...but it is just the dust coming off our grass from our friendly neighborhood gravel pit. Thank you Neighbor and the Bonneville County Planning and Zoning Commission for deciding our small three family neighborhood needed to endure the Gravel Pit and Asphalt Plant for the "greater good" of the community! My lungs love you!!!

Day 145 - September 22, 2010

HARVEST MOON
Tonight was the night of the Harvest Moon (the full moon closest to the Fall Equinox), this year was quite special as it occurred on the very night of the Fall Equinox which has not happened since September 23, 1991 and won't happen again until 2029.
This years Harvest Moon also coincided with an alignment of Jupiter and Uranus, and while I could see Jupiter clearly, it was quite cloudy and I never got a shot with both the Moon and Jupiter in the open.

Day 144 - September 21, 2010

MOTH???
I'm not really sure what this guy is...but once the leaves turn he will be virtually undetectable in our trees...

Day 143 - September 20, 2010

SUNSET
Although I went looking for a great wildlife shot...and saw a group of at least 20 Swainson's Hawks (they are gathering to begin their migration to Central and South America) I could not get a decent shot. Luckily you don't have to witness that here because there was a decent sunset tonight!

Day 142 - September 19, 2010

SLEEPY
What can I say...sleepy dog, sleepy photographer...this is the only shot I got all day!

Day 141 - September 18, 2010

YELLOWSTONE WILDLIFE
We didn't get too close to much game in the Park, but we did see some elk and hear them bugling, which I love. Dad got to see his first wolves ever(we also heard them howling and yipping), we saw some buffalo being chased by a black wolf, some coyotes hunting for mice in a meadow and...much to my relief (because Rae really wanted to see a bear) a couple of black bears in Grand Teton National Park. I didn't get pictures of most of this...but it was a great time anyway.

Day 140 - September 17, 2010

CHROMATIC POOL
I went to the park this weekend with Mom, Dad and Rae and I am so glad we went. It was really fun, we haven't spent time together like that in many years.
This is Chromatic Pool in the Upper Geyser Basin (near Old Faithful)in Yellowstone. We missed the eruption of Old Faithful because I really wanted to see Morning Glory Pool...but I think it was worth it to see all the others along the way...Thanks guys!

September 16, 2010

Day 139 - September 16, 2010

LESSER YELLOWLEGS
Here's a bird I've never shot before. There were several of these Lesser Yellowlegs, Sandpipers and even a Killdeer picking through the shallows at the river today. There was also a Snowy Egret...but that didn't work out for me...

September 15, 2010

Day 138 - September 15, 2010

?????
That's right...the best thing I got today was this gull in flight. I don't even know what kind it is...not that it matters as it is not really a good shot anyway!
I vow that tomorrow will be better!!!

September 14, 2010

Day 137 - September 14, 2010

SUNRISE - SUNSET
There was an AMAZING sunrise this morning...unfortunately once I got to a place I could snap a picture, it was already losing its luster...but you get the idea...then tonight and equally AMAZING sunset...what a beautiful day!

September 13, 2010

Day 136 - September 13, 2010

REMEMBER WHEN...
Although I see these every day...I really saw them tonight and spent a few minutes remembering when the boys were little and needed us for everything...I cannot believe how the years have flown by...

September 12, 2010

Day 135 - September 12, 2010

BURROWING OWLS
Went to Blackfoot today to pick up fair pictures and found that there are still a few burrowing owls around. They were very tolerant and let us get quite close. These guys are so cute...I wanted to grab on and bring it home!

Day 134 - September 11, 2010

SUNSET
Didn't get too many shots today. Luckily I liked this one of the nice autumn sunset we had tonight.

September 10, 2010

Day 133 - September 10, 2010

CHILLY MORNING
We traveled to Salmon this morning and stopped for a couple of minutes at Birch Creek. It snowed overnight and the snow was down pretty low...it's coming...and I'm not sure we're ready...

September 9, 2010

Day 132 - September 9, 2010

RAINY DAY = WET DOG
What more can I say. It rained all day so I didn't get out to do any shooting. As you can see from the look on his face...Gus was soaked and DID NOT enjoy being toweled off before coming in the house.

September 8, 2010

Day 131 - September 8, 2010

GARY'S TREAT
Had to run to the store tonight and Gary really wanted a tasty treat...I got him M&M's...hadn't taken a picture all day so they became my subject...not exactly what I was thinking but it will do in a pinch!

September 7, 2010

Day 130 - September 7, 2010

HAWKS
I will never be good at identifying hawks...these guys acted like brothers...but they sure don't look alike. I've posted them to a bird identification group in hopes of finding out...
Update - September 8, 2010 - they are both Swainson's...wierd...they look quite different???

Day 129 - September 6, 2010

MY GUYS
I've been wanting to get some pictures of my family since Ben turned 21 last month. Today was my first real chance. They wanted all the dogs in the photo...we'd still be there if we kept trying to get everyone to look...I know the guys would look better without hat shadows on their faces, but what can I say...that is NOT going to happen with my guys...oh well. Duel - 18 Ben - 21 Gary - 47

September 5, 2010

Day 128 - September 5, 2010

PALISADES
Took the family to Palisades so the dogs could swim today. It was really windy but they still had a lot of fun!

September 4, 2010

Day 127 - September 4, 2010

SPINNING
Decided to work with shutter speed and flash to see if I could stop the action on a spinning quarter. It was harder to focus than I thought it would be, but I think this one looks pretty good.

Day 126 - September 3, 2010

LUCKY SHOT
I consider this a very lucky shot. I was taking some macro shots of our peppermint patch and happened upon this hopper. I got 3 or 4 shots before he hopped away. I think this one turned out pretty well.

September 3, 2010

Day 125 - September 2, 2010

OSPREY
Looks like I found a good spot for a few days. Here is another (or maybe the same) Osprey with his lunch. He had a much bigger fish today!

September 1, 2010

Day 124 - September 1, 2010

LUNCH TIME
Now here's a bird I love! Found this Osprey eating his lunch during my lunch today. He was cooperative for about 5 quick shots...then he took the remains of his lunch and left. Got a fairly good flight shot but clipped his wing...maybe next time!
