Day 184 - October 31, 2010

THE COLORS OF FALL
I know I should have gotten some type of Halloween shot today, but I didn't get anything out to decorate for Halloween this year and I didn't even buy a pumpkin for our front porch...I thought of taking a picture of all the leaves in our yard but decided that was too depressing...just got this colorful shot looking out across our pasture. I REALLY need to find some birds or other animals this week!

Day 183 - October 30, 2010

HALF WAY
Today is half way through the year of a picture a day. Took several 1/2 shots and liked this one best.

Day 182 - October 29, 2010

END OF THE DAY
Another beautiful end to the day. I took several other shots today, but I didn't really love any of them so decided to go with another sunset. I will definitely get something different tomorrow.

October 28, 2010

Day 181 - October 28, 2010

SPECTACULAR
The sunset tonight was AMAZING!!! I love a beautiful sunset and they always seem more colorful this time of year. Now...just try to imagine it without the gravel piles, batch plant and bee hives...yes...that would be perfect!!
This was my first try at processing an HDR using 5 shots. I like the results!

Day 180 - October 27, 2010

OUR VIEW
I wasn't very inspired today...so I just took this shot of the view from our back yard. I'm hoping for something better tomorrow!nc

Day 179 - October 26, 2010

READY OR NOT...HERE IT COMES
So, when the weather forecast said 50% chance of snow, I really thought it was a mistake...but I was the one that was mistaken! It snowed today and I'm not talking about the mountains, I'm talking about my yard. This is a shot I took tonight while I was watering and feeding the cows.

Day 178 - October 25, 2010

WHAT THE HECK?????
I have no idea what is going on. It is FREEZING cold outside today. I just looked at the weather and the temperature is currently 42 and feels like 34 with the wind...I can see snow on the mountains out my kitchen window...and I had three brand new buds on one of my rose bushes in the front yard. What is that about??? I'll never understand the weather here...anyway...I picked the three buds and brought them inside and they became my picture today.

Day 177 - October 24, 2010

HOCKEY SEASON
It's that time of year again...hockey season is starting...and for the first time EVER, the Bowden boys are on the same team!!! So, to commemorate this occasion...today's photo is a pile of Papa Tom's jersey's I just washed, with their numbers showing. (Duel #14 and Ben #23) I'm so excited to watch them finally play together...and the best part...it's adult league...Gary and I just have to show up and watch...and it's only one night a week!!!

Day 176 - October 23, 2010

SNAKE RIVER AUTUMN
Took a few shots of the fall colors from the rest area above the Snake River along Antelope Flats today. This picture is taken looking toward Ririe. I love all the color this time of year.

Day 175 - October 22, 2010

PARK BARN
I went with my dad and mom today to see my Great-Grandparent's homestead. This is the barn than my Great-Grandpa Park built in 1901 and 1902. It is in amazing shape for being 108 years old. I learned today that the family (with 6 kids) lived for two winters in a covered wagon while they built the barn. It made me realize that we sure take a lot for granted these days. They sky was quite overcast so this set of pictures is not the greatest, but I plan to go back for more as the weather allows...more to come.

October 21, 2010

Day 174 - October 21, 2010

SILENT TONIGHT
I decided to take some shots of the piano. This piano originally belonged to Gary's Grandmother, then Mother and now to him. It is so beautiful and Gary is working to restore the player mechanism...it will be really fun to hear it play all the reels of music we have for it. Until then, I have to wait for Gary or Ben to happen along and play a tune.

October 20, 2010

Day 173 - October 20, 2010

RIVER REFLECTION
I went to the river at lunch today and took quite a few shots. I really liked the smooth water and reflection in this one. I love the fall...it's my favorite time of year.

October 19, 2010

Day 172 - October 19, 2010

FIRE & WATER
It was a crazy night in our area last night. There were at least six huge haystacks set on fire by an arsonist (luckily he was caught). Two were very near our house...we could see them from our window. I caught the flames from afar on my way to work. Then stopped at the river after work to take a few shots of the falls. I thought it would be appropriate to post both fire and water today.

Day 171 - October 18, 2010

FAMILY FUN
I heard about this great place for families to go in the fall, U-Pick Pumpkins. It's really close to work so we dropped in at lunch today. It would be a really fun place to take kids...maybe not mine...but those about 10 and under. Maybe the boys will take their kids to the U-Pick Pumpkin Patch someday...YIKES!

October 17, 2010

Day 170 - October 17, 2010

REALLY...ARE YOU KIDDING????
So...If you are someone who decides to give your neighbors the gift of a HUGE gravel pit right in front of their houses...what do you do for an encore????
Apparently, you invest in a few hundred bee hives...that's right...bee hives...and put them between the gravel pit and my front yard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really????
This is getting ridiculous!!!!
There are bees EVERYWHERE!!!

Day 169 - October 16, 2010

RED TAILED HAWK
We had a new visitor today. I think it is a Red Tailed Hawk. Maybe looking for a winter home...I hope he chooses our little corner of the world.
I'm working on identifying him for sure and will post an update when I am certain.
Okay, it has been confirmed, this is an adult Red Tailed Hawk.

Day 168 - October 15, 2010

SUNRISE
Took another sunrise shot today. It was pretty early, a bit before daylight. It turned out okay, but certainly not the best.

Day 167 - October 14, 2010

FORGOTTEN
I often wonder about these forgotten farm houses. I don't really understand how this happens. I can tell the land around it has been sold and sub-divided but it seems someone could have still lived here and fixed it up...sad...

October 13, 2010

Day 166 - October 13, 2010

THE SUN RISES...THEN SETS
I thought the sunrise and sunset were both beautiful today...so I shot and am posting both.
I'll try to do something besides the sunrise and sunset tomorrow...

October 12, 2010

Day 165 - October 12, 2010

SUNSET
The sky was beautiful tonight...funny when the best part of the sunset isn't where the sun went down...oh, well...I really liked it anyway. I've even got Gary noticing the sky lately...BIG accomplishment!

Day 164 - October 11, 2010

NOT WHAT YOU THINK...
Okay, this is not what you might think. I did not have a great adventure or travel to any cool location. I was driving around at lunch and happened upon an elk ranch. Now...I must say this...I HATE it when people take pictures of captive animals and then try to pass them off as wild...that is not what I am doing. These are captive animals and I thought long and hard then decided I would ONLY use these photos for my blog so I snapped a few pictures because I had seen nothing else. So here you go...basically zoo animals...blah!!! Oh, and since I said a "few days" of black and white I thought I needed to do at least three...

October 11, 2010

Day 163 - October 10, 2010

10-10-10, FUZZY KIDS & GARY
It's October 10, 2010...had to do something to commemorate the day...I tried many things, domino's, money, dice, etc., but liked this one the best.
Also during the day I got the fuzzy kids to pose for a few shots AND got Gary to smile...I know...shocker...so here are all three!

Day 162 - October 9, 2010

HOLDING IT ALL TOGETHER
Couldn't really think of anything today so I just went walking around our little corner of the world and took shots of lots of stuff. I took a few shots of this insulator handle that holds the electric fence in place and liked how it turned out. Also decided to go for a black and white theme for the next few days...

October 8, 2010

Day 161 - October 8, 2010

GATHERING STORM AND A CRAZY MAN
I stopped today to get a few shots of a storm that was gathering over the foothills and when I turned around to get back in the car I was surprised by this crazy little man...well not really little, he's at least as tall as me. I liked the photos of the storm and the man...so here are both.

October 7, 2010

Day 160 - October 7, 2010

SUNRISE AT THE RIVER
Not my best work ever...but it's all I shot today and i think it turned out okay. It's funny, I thought the water was smooth as glass but when I looked at the photo's they had all picked up lots of ripples I hadn't noticed.

October 6, 2010

Day 159 - October 6, 2010

AUTUMN IS COMING
Took some shots of both the sunrise and sunset today but didn't really like how any of them came out. Luckily we ventured out Sunnyside Road today and took a few shots...the colors are just starting to change...I liked how this one turned out.

October 5, 2010

Day 158 - October 5, 2010

SUNRISE
Since I missed the sunrise yesterday, I made sure I was prepared today. It wasn't as spectacular as yesterday but it was certainly not a disappointment.

Day 157 - October 4, 2010

ANOTHER SWAINSON'S HAWK
I thought since it was my birthday I'd find something spectacular to shoot. While there was a BEAUTIFUL sunrise, I was driving and didn't have a good place to stop...so I had to settle for this young Swainson's Hawk.

Day 156 - October 3, 2010

THESE KIDS NEED A RIDE!
We had a great weekend camping with Duel and my mom and dad. Gary got the 4-wheeler out of Sunday and Grace and Molly HAD to have a ride...so they jumped up and waited quietly for Gary to give in.

Day 155 - October 2, 2010

ANOTHER TRY...
Tried for the sunset again...again I was just a little too late, but the ride was fun and I saw a couple of deer on the way out so it was not a total bust!

Day 154 - October 1, 2010

PASS CREEK LAKE
I tried for a sunset shot at Pass Creek Lake but really needed to be there about the time we were leaving camp. Even though you can't tell in this shot, the sunset was beautiful as we were getting there...
