Day 292 - February 16, 2011

GRACIE LOU
Today's ODC Assignment is "High Angle"
Since the crappy weather returned today (snowing and blowing when I left work)I needed to shoot something inside. I climbed up on a stool and told Gracie to sit...isn't she sweet...sitting pretty like that for me!

Da6 291 - February 15, 2011

GETTING BACK IN THE GROOVE
Well, I'm getting back into the groove of things...back to real life, work, winter and Idaho.
I couldn't decide between the Daily Shoot or ODC Assignment today so I did both.
The Daily Shoot Assignment was: Make a Photograph of something old.
I know I've shot this house before, but I thought it was fitting to shoot it again.
The ODC Assignment is "Catch the Action"
I decided to try to catch the splash as I dropped a lime into a glass of water. I liked both shots so I'm including them both here. These were fun and I'm sure I'll try this again.

Day 290 - February 14, 2011

NEW BEGINNING
Back to Idaho...
Today's ODC Assignment was "Fresh Start/New Beginning". There was a great sunrise as we were driving to the airport...the new beginning of another day...but Phoenix freeway's are not a good place to pull over to take photos...so I waited until we were home and decided since it was starting to thaw...I'd say this shot fit...The Fresh Start of Spring (I hope).

Day 289 - February 13, 2011

WARM WEATHER
While we were in Arizona I tried to keep up with the Daily Shoot or ODC assignments...today the ODC assignment was "NEON". I got a shot of this neon sign in our park and since I loved shooting the Cardinal so much, I'm including him too.
Also a shot I took in the desert today.

Day 288 - February 12, 2011

ARIZONA
Today's ODC assignment was "Begins with F"...this may be a stretch...but I'm going with this California Quail shot for "Feather". Duel went with me tonight to try some night time shots I've always wanted to do. The first is my first attempt at a star trail and the second is our first attempt at light painting. I think they turned out pretty good and I'd like to try some more.
I have hundreds of shots that I took in Arizona...it will take awhile to go through them all.

Day 287 - February 11, 2011

HEADING FOR WARM WEATHER
Exciting day...we headed to Arizona today to visit Dad and Mom. The ODC assignment for the day was "Zipper" so I shot this rolled up sleeping bag before we left.
We didn't have a lot of time for shooting on this first day there, but I did take this sort of abstract shot of the lights in the park we stayed at.

Day 286 - February 10, 2011

IN THE CAR
The ODC assignment for today was "in the car". The first shot here is a shot through my side view mirror (my car was stopped at the time) and the second is looking up through the giant chip that I've had for a couple of years...can't believe it hasn't ever cracked!

Day 285 - February 9, 2011

LOVE
Today's Daily Shoot assignment was another repeat...so we found another site that gives an assignment each day...ODC (Our Daily Challenge).
Today's assignment: Love
This is not an original photo idea, I saw a similar shot and wanted to see if I could make it work. I think it turned out pretty good...

Day 284 - February 8, 2011

GETTING READY
The Daily Shoot assignment today is:
We all prepare for things every day. Illustrate preparedness in a photograph today.
I took a shot of some maps, direction, flight information, rental car information, etc. for our upcoming trip to visit Mom and Dad in Arizona.

Day 283 - February 7, 2011

DAILY SHOOT & A BEAUTIFUL SUNSET
Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is:
Use a window or a door as a frame for your subject today in a photograph.
I really like this idea and would like to try it again when I have more time to plan...but I got this shot of Grace and Molly looking out the door with the reflection of the sunset in the window...it's okay...and I'll definitely be working on this shot again (different window/door and subject).
And then there was the sunset. BEAUTIFUL...what more can I say.

Day 282 - February 6, 2011

DAILY SHOOT AND THE DEER
Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is:
Power plugs are ubiquitous. Can you make a creative photo of such a common thing? Try it today!
It's amazing how many power plugs you have around the house to choose from. This one is for my Kindle.
Then I went to check out the elk again and found some deer too. The baby was pretty rude...sticking his tongue out at me like that!

Day 281 - February 5, 2011

ABSTRACT & THE ELK
Today's Daily Shoot assignment is:
Go abstract today and make a photograph that focuses on form and color rather than detail.
I sort of like this abstract...because Gary couldn't tell what it was...can you??? It is the sunset shot through a bush.
And then there are the elk. I know that there are a ton of elk nearby this winter, but it took a visitor from California for me to find out they were just up the the road from my house...the background is crappy...but there are about 50 to 80 elk wintering just up the road from my house (about 2 miles south).

Day 280 - February 4, 2011

DEPTH...DIMENSION
Today's Daily Shoot assignment is:
Create a photo today that gives a sense of depth or dimension.
I tried several different things for this but most did not come out as I had envisioned them... Here is a shot of the piano keys and one of the ice overhang on our garage. I think I like the ice best...too bad the mountains at the end of the tunnel weren't more clear...next time...
And last...for some dimension...this is a pile of hair Gary got while combing ONE side of Gus. It is a little deeper than it is wide...What will we do when it is actually time for him to shed????

February 3, 2011

Day 279 - January 3, 2011

BEAUTY
Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is:
Look upward today. Make a photograph with a low horizon and that emphasizes the sky.
I thought there would be no way to get a shot for this assignment today because it was supposed to cloud up and snow...luckily that didn't happen. I got these sunset shots on my way home. The first one is taken from the Sunnyside Exit and the second was taken from our driveway.

Day 278 - February 2, 2011

POT HOLE FROM YOU KNOW WHERE!!!
Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is:
Pretend you're a stringer for your local newspaper today. Make a photo that captures something newsworthy to you.
When I read this assignment, I immediately thought of two potential newsworthy items: 1) the fact that it was -19 when I left for work, and 2) the horrible condition of our roads.
So I took this picture of the largest Pot Hole I've encountered so far.
My headline would read either "WINTER TAKES ITS TOLE ON IDAHO ROADS!!!!" or "WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH OUR TAX MONEY?????"
This pot hole is HUGE. It is at least 2 feet wide, 3 feet long and 4 inches deep and as you can see it will very soon be at least double that length...

Day 277 - February 1, 2011

FUN NEW TOY
Today's Daily Shoot Assignment is:
Fill the frame of a photograph with a single subject today.
I recently got this fun new toy...A Kindle...I wasn't sure if I'd like it at first because I really like a book in my hand, but I'm starting to really like it. It's small and I can take it anywhere and read a bit while waiting...like when I was getting a new tire on my car yesterday.

Day 276 - January 31, 2011

REPETITION
Today's Daily Shoot Assignment is:
Make a photograph that features repetition.
I wanted something unique, and I thought these grain silo's would show repetition...now I'm not so sure, but it's all I've got.
